Some Good News And Some Bad News

Post Campaign Update #6

👋🏻 Hi Everyone,

First, I want to apologize for the delay in updates. I was trying to avoid sending too many and wanted as much information to deliver at once. We're now in the month of July which puts us behind on the June estimation for physical fulfillment.

Here's a timeline of events that occurred since the last update I sent on June 7th:

June 20th: I was notified by the printer (Comix Well Spring) that the printable foil did not come out right due to the amount of white space on the cover. See the picture they sent me below.

They recommended a holochrome cover instead which I agreed to. The good news is, this is an upgrade! These covers will have a nice laminated finish to them. 👌🏻

July 7th (last Monday): After not hearing back from Comix Well Spring (CWS) in over two weeks, I emailed them for an update. I was told the following -

"They are working on it today.  I am hoping everything is ready tomorrow or Wednesday by the latest.  I apologize, I am not sure why it took so long."

July 10th (today, i.e. Thursday): After not hearing back from them yesterday, I emailed CWS again this morning. Hear is the bad news. Everything was packed up and loaded on the truck when someone realized that the two-page spread in the coloring book edition wasn't separated before going to print. See the picture they sent me below.

That causes a problem for the rest of the pages for this issue and created a blank page at the end. How they realized this after they packed and loaded everything on the truck, I'll never know. I was asked if they want me to have them ship these out as is and then send you all corrected copies later, or pull everything off the truck, break open the packages, and reprint.

I chose the latter which is going to cause even more time before these are fulfilled. My decision was based on not wanting errored copies with my name, Jonathan Hedrick Comics, and the other creators names' attached to subpar product. I hope you understand my decision.

I've asked them to keep me posted on the reprint and fulfillment. I imagine it's going to be another two weeks though.

So, after all this, combined with a slow turnaround on surveys (and I still don't have all of them back) which I believe is due to some backers not used to BackerKit, this is why fulfillment is one month late.

In the meantime, I hope many of you have had a chance to read your digital copies! If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Are you looking forward to what happens next on Atticus's adventure?

Thank you all for your patience in this matter. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Until next time,

Proofs Approved! Going To Print Soon!

Post Campaign Update #5

👋🏻 Hi Everyone,

Good news! Our printer, Comix Well Spring provided digital proofs for the physical rewards a week faster than I anticipated. Everything was in order and I gave them the okay to move forward to the final stages of production.

That means I've moved our timeline up by one week. Addresses will lock in 48 hours because I need to provide Comix Well Spring with a fulfillment spreadsheet. If you haven't completed your survey yet AND you pledged for physical rewards, it's getting dangerously close to "too late."

🤷🏻‍♂️ Lost Your Survey or "I never got one"?

If you lost your survey email, or you believe you never received one, you can go to the survey recovery page! Enter your email address at the link here to receive another survey link.

The link will take you to a page that looks like the screenshot above.

🗓️ Updated Timeline:

June 6th (yesterday): Digital proofs received from printer.

June 7th (today): Digital proofs were approved and the okay given to print physical rewards.

June 9th:  BackerKit will lock addresses down (surveys completed or not) and I will provide Comix Well Spring with the mailing addresses I have available

Approx. 21 business days:  This is when I believe Comix Well Spring will begin shipping physical rewards. If I'm correct, it will still be June, putting physical fulfillment in the month I estimated delivery to occur.

Digital Fulfillment Has Begun + Physical Copies Ordered!
10 months ago – Sat, May 31, 2025 at 01:45:40 AM

Post Campaign Update #4

👋🏻 Hi Everyone,

If you've completed your survey then you should have received an email from BackerKit with access to your digital downloads! Those went out yesterday so check your inboxes and spam/junk folders for the email account that is attached to your Kickstarter profile.

Look for an email from BackerKit

Only $2 was raised through BackerKit's Pledge Manager so I've already locked orders considering that survey completions have come to a halt. 13 surveys are still pending, 10 of which are for digital or physical rewards. I've marked those 10 backers' rewards statuses as "Delayed" in order to notify them that I'm waiting for them to complete their surveys.

🗓️ Updated Timeline:

May 30th (yesterday): Digital rewards were sent out to backers who've completed their surveys which means we kept our estimated delivery for those pledges.

May 30th (yesterday): Physical copies (comics and all stretch goal rewards) were ordered through Comix Well Spring. I did this 6 days early compared to what I said in my previous update because of the lack of survey completions. We can still get this step moving while waiting for the remaining stragglers.

Approx. 14 business days: I anticipate receiving digital proofs from Comix Well Spring in about 2 weeks. If those are in proper order, I'll give them the okay to begin printing. Then, I will lock addresses down (surveys completed or not) and provide them with the mailing addresses I have available

Approx. 30 business days:  This is when I believe Comix Well Spring will begin shipping physical rewards. That means it will be July which puts us 1 month behind the estimated delivery for physical rewards. Not bad at all and I appreciate your patience ahead of time.

All Surveys Have Been Sent! Check Your Email!
11 months ago – Thu, May 22, 2025 at 02:25:02 AM

Post Campaign Update #3

Hi Everyone,

Surveys have been sent out to all backers and we're currently sitting at 71% completed. We still need 26 more people to complete their surveys through BackerKit*. This is the only thing that is stopping us from continuing fulfillment.

*Check your spam/junk folders and look for something from "BackerKit" if you have not completed your survey yet.

Timeline:

In 9 days I will "lock orders" in BackerKit which means you will not be able to add anything extra when completing your survey.

In 2 weeks I will submit the order to the printer based upon how many copies were pledged for. That will still give any "stragglers" some time to provide their shipping addresses through the BackerKit survey.

Once the printer provides me with digital proofs of the comics, I will forward them the list of backers' addresses who have completed their surveys by that point in time. If you're not on that list by then, it will be very challenging for me to fulfill your physical rewards after that.

For example, I still have one physical reward to ship out for Capable #7 (the project before Atticus & The Magical Pillow Fort #1). That backer completed their survey after I submitted the fulfillment spreadsheet to the backer and it was too late to add them on. Now I'm going back and forth with the printer's customer service department to ship one solitary comic book. It's much easier to ship them in bulk!

Survey Smoke Test Sent Out
11 months ago – Thu, May 15, 2025 at 02:17:01 AM

Post Campaign Update #2

Hi Everyone,

Great news! We're getting closer to fulfilling your rewards. The funding has been deposited from Kickstarter. The project is complete with all files ready to go to the printer and digital rewards are ready to be sent out to backers.

But first, we need to collect your surveys. These will be sent out through BackerKit as I mentioned in my prior update. Today, we're conducting a "smoke test" with the surveys.

What is a Smoke Test?

  • A smoke test sends surveys to 5% of backers from each pledge level in the campaign.
  • It’s a simple way to catch any errors in the survey and make sure everything runs smoothly.
  • Once the smoke test has been completed, I can send surveys to the rest of the backers.

BackerKit also gives you one more chance to add on any additional rewards that you may have skipped when the campaign was live. If you see anything you can't live without, I highly recommend you get it. For example, I don't foresee printing anymore physical copies of any of the covers for quite some time. The foil cover will definitely not be printed again!

No Errored Pledges! 🥳

More great news! All errored pledges were collected and two Late Pledges were made after the campaign closed. As an added bonus, I'm throwing in a free 3" x 2" sticker of the Atticus & The Magical Pillow Fort logo to all physical backers!

Consider it a gift to show my gratitude for being such awesome people and helping this project come to life!
